Daniel Writes a Bad Poem

I talked to Jack today
I do it every day
He struggles what to say
But not to me today

I don’t mean every day
It’s never on a Sunday
Could I get it just one day?
Something nice for him to say.

Over time I gave my day
My time and twice on Friday
But now it’s gone the byway
Over time I’ve lost my way

Just sometimes It’d be nice
But not today, no dice.
How long can I not say
Jack, what about today?

And again, I ask the day
What about this to say
How are you anyway?
I know what I would say.

So Jack please end today
With at least a smile my way
Just anything but dismay
And there it was today…

“It’s Been a while,” he said.
It’s too long put to bed
But I know the day today
So, Daniel, Happy Birthday.”

I was stunned for what to say.
So all I did was say
Thank you Jack, oh by the way
I’m hungry, what do you say?

Me too, he said.
Well finally.

Jack finishes reading.

“…You typed me a bad poem.”

Daniel nods.

“It’s terrible.”

Another nod.

“I’m keeping it.”

Author’s Note: While writing this poem, Daniel was unconsciously humming the 1890s ditty, “Ta-ra-ra Boom-de-ay.” He realized it later. And has no intention of ever revealing that to Jack.  He’d never live it down.
