"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." ~ Albert Einstein

Vala Mal Doran

Bio/Facts

Vala's age and place of origin is unknown. She has a mother and step-mother, both of whom are deceased. Her father, whom she despises, is a much more unsavory, untrustworthy character than Vala could ever be, and he unfortunately still lives.

Vala had been host to a Goa'uld named Qetesh. On the planet that Qetesh ruled, there was an uprising and the Tok'ra spies present removed her symbiote. Vala took off and made her way to another planet where Qetesh had ruled and pretended to be the god the inhabitants worshipped. After regrouping from her ordeal, and after getting what she wanted from her "subjects," Vala left and joined up with other thieves and con artists.

In 2004, she ran into the Prometheus and attacked the ship, disabling it and abandoning the crew in her cargo ship while capturing Daniel Jackson. Her plans were thwarted by Daniel, however, and the crew, commanded by General Hammond, were able to return to the Prometheus. Vala, however, escaped.

She later turned up in 2005, met an SG team, and was brought to the SGC by promising a weapons cache that was at the end of a supposed treasure hunt. After tricking Daniel into wearing a Goa'uld slavery bracelet, she was able to stay at the SGC until they found the treasure beneath Glastonbury, in England. Unfortunately, there were no weapons and her plan for riches backfired. Because of her machinations, she and Daniel used a communications device found in Glastonbury and discovered the Ori in a distant galaxy.

Aside: Anti-Daniel fans of Stargate SG-1 like to blame Daniel for the Ori(and every other bad thing that's happened in the series), but it was Vala and her tempting promises of weapons that lead them to the Ori. If it weren't for her, Daniel would have been in Atlantis, not hooking up to an ancient comm device.

Halfway through 2005, Vala jumped aboard a cargo ship to prevent the completion of an Ori supergate. When the gate exploded at the same time as the singularity connected to the Ori galaxy, she was transported there.

She wound up on an Ori-controlled planet, Ver Isca, and met and married a follower of the Ori named Tomin. She tried to help thwart Ori plans to invade the Milky Way galaxy, but failed. Meanwhile, the Ori impregnated her with a half-Ori child called the Orisi. During the invasion of the Milky Way, she gave birth, then escaped with the help of Daniel Jackson and returned to the SGC. She was later made a member of SG-1 after proving she could be somewhat trustworthy.

Current(2007) status unknown.

Odds and Ends

Vala is a hedonist, but she also has a good heart. She's been forced to protect herself from harm and because of that, she trusts very few and uses lies and deceit as her best friends. It's a trait which has earned her limited trust from many. She has a reluctant fondness for Daniel Jackson and won't admit to any attraction other than a casual desire to have sex with him. She would just as easily have sex with Mitchell or Teal'c.

Nothing personal is really known about Vala other than the fact that she's had a hard life, loves to indulge herself, and has very few restrictions. She's a contradiction; she's very open and honest with her opinions but skimpy on telling anyone the truth when it won't gain her anything or when she suspects people are using her.

There wasn't enough time for us to find out about many specific things that she loves. She loves her husband, Tomin, but it's a dysfunctional relationship she could certainly do without. There is a short list of things she hates and among them are the Ori, the Goa'uld and her father.
