Bio/Facts
Born October 12, 1952, in Chicago; no middle name known; no known family. He was possibly raised in Minnesota, but he currently has a cabin property there. Trained as a pilot in the US Air Force but was part of/worked for US Air Force Office of Special Investigations(Special Ops) during classified missions. Married a woman named Sara(divorced); son, Charles "Charlie" O'Neill(in the film, it was Tyler Charles "Charlie" O'Neil).
Sometime in 1994, Jack lost his son, Charlie, in a gun accident. He was "unofficially" retired after that, for medical reasons(grief), but in 1995, Colonel O'Neill was brought back to work at the SGC as leader of the mission to Abydos. He returned with most of his team while Daniel Jackson remained on Abydos. Not long after he returned home, his wife petitioned for divorce due to the strain on their marriage and Jack officially retired from the USAF. 18 months later, in 1997, he was pulled back into service to return to Abydos and retrieve Daniel Jackson.
In 2003, Jack was cloned by renegade Asgard, Loki, but the cloning was of a teenaged version of himself. That John O'Neill was relocated and his current situation is unknown.
In 2004, he was promoted to Brigadier General and placed in command of the SGC. In 2005, left the SGC to become head of the parent covert agency, Homeworld Security. Current(2007) status of service unknown.
Odds and Ends
Has worn "fingerless" gloves during missions, including during the time he was head of the SGC; aside from the pilot episode, he has never worn a helmet. The green and black fatigue caps were regular issue but that grass-green cap and the black knit cap were non-regulation and part of his "individualized" uniform.
Drinks Heineken beer; doesn't watch sci-fi except with Teal'c; plays chess, even by himself when he's bored; loves all kinds of pie, grilling food, fishing, and flying jets.
In ten years, he has referred to Sam Carter as "Sam" only twice; has never called Daniel by his last name but has called him "Danny" four times, and has never "seriously" given Teal'c a nickname(though he's jokingly given him a nickname here and there, the last of which was "Rocko" in season 4's "Prodigy").
