Peter

Safety was warm. Being wrapped in Nathan’s hugs made Peter feel safe enough to dream, to run, to fly.

Late at night, Peter would lie on his side and wrap his arms around himself – trying to feel the comfort Nathan gave him. Letters helped. Some had good advice about girls. Some had stories of shipboard life. Some opened a window into Nathan.

Nathan was coming home to Peter. He’d served his requirements, distinguished himself.

Peter ran down the stairs when he heard the car. He raced into Nathan’s arms and kissed him right on the mouth.

Warmth became heat.

Nathan

His brother was a child when he left. A force of nature who constantly found new ways to look at the world, Peter changed his perspective every day.

Nathan didn’t feel he’d known his brother terribly well before he left for sea duty. Peter’s letters had brought new vitality to his memories of home. Through letters, Nathan found a friend, a soul.

Now, he was home.

A beautiful young man jumped down the few steps from the house to the sidewalk and propelled himself into Nathan’s arms. Peter kissed him, lips soft on his.

Nathan’s perspective changed again
